With so many games being made with everyone’s favourite Italian plumber, there’s bound to be somethings that even more hardcore fans didn’t know they could do in his games. So let’s go over a few things you didn’t know you could do inMariogames.

10Tricking Off Things Other Than Jumps - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mario Kart 8teaches the player in the tutorial to do tricks off of ramp jumps in order to gain a boost, however, this can be done on various other parts of various other courses that are not ramps. Most of these areas are what you could call accidental ramps that give you some air time when they weren’t supposed to. There are actually a few points like these on a few different courses like Bowser’s Castle and Cloudtop Cruise but you can find these spots on plenty of other maps as well.

9Item Stacking - Super Mario Maker 2

Super Mario Makeris one of the most creative teams ever created andSuper Mario Maker 2improved on the game’s original premise by leaps and bounds. The game gives the player the feeling of being a real game developer or creator while you’re building your levels, with your own stipulations and unique ideas being able to be inserted into the game. One of these is the item of item stack in blocks. This means that you can set different items to come out of the block depend on what type of character hits it, so a small Mario can get a mushroom but big Mario can get a flower.

8Walk On A Giant Pokeball - Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxywas a welcome change for theMarioseries and made good use of the Wii’s capabilities, especially when you consider that it was a launch title for the motion gameplay console.

The game took place through a vast planet filed galaxy, as the name implies and a few of these planets were actually references to otherNintendotitles. One of these planets happened to be shaped and designed very similarly to the iconic design of the Pokeball.

7Reset Skill Trees - Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle

The combination of theSuper MarioandRaving RabbidsFranchises is already a pretty strange one but you’re able to see the potential there. What makes it weirder is that the crossover game takes heavy inspiration from theXCOMfranchise. The turn-based strategy genre and Mario work surprisingly well together, even with the Rabbids thrown into the mix. Something that you might not have known you can do is actually change around the level tree of your various characters between levels, meaning that if you lose a level, you can completely change your character’s skill tree to better match up to it.

6Go Back To Super Mario 64 - Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odysseyis a game that can be described as a love letter to the wholeMariofranchise. The game features many callbacks to different games and eras in the history of the franchise, including things like 2D segments. One of the bigger callbacks is being able to return to a completely remadeSuper Mario 64version of the Mushroom Kingdom after completing the games main story.

5Play As Yoshi - Super Mario Odyssey

Keeping on theSuper Mario Odyssey/Super Mario 64train, Yoshi was a very well hidden secret in theN64launch title. After getting all 120 stars in the original game you could find Yoshi on the roof of the castle.; It seems that Yoshi has stayed there throughout all of those years as everyone’s favourite dinosaur can still be found there after unlocking the stairs to bring you to the roof. Unfortunately, you cannot ride him like in other games but you can take control of him with your hat.

4Play As Golden Mario - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

It was marketed during the lead up to the release ofMario Kart 8Deluxethat every character would be playable from the minute you start up the game. Well, apparently that was a lie as there is one character that you have to unlock in the game, that character being Golden Mario. While he is only a gold reskin of Metal Mario, it’s still cool to have all the characters unlocked, which you’re able to do by getting Gold (first place) in all 12 Cups while playing in the 200 cc class.

3One-Shot A Boss - Yoshi’s Island

While there is no concrete evidence of this being the case, it seems like this another little tip comes to us from our friends in the speedrunning community. This tip takes advantage of the way bosses are created inYoshi’s Island. Bosses are normal enemies that are made big by Kamek, Rita Repulsa style. Players figured out that on World 3 you are able to take out the boss in one hit, by hitting it with an egg before it transforms, causing Kamek to scream out “OH MY!!!”.

2Finish The Game In Three Minutes - Super Mario Bros 3

We have the speedrunning community to thank for this little revelation. to have the fastest possible playthrough ofSuper Mario Brothers 3possible, you’ll have to finish the game with a time that is around 3 minutes. to do this, the player will need to take advantage of a few glitches, the most important of which is killing specific enemies to fill up the game’s memory to the desired values. This will cause the game to load up at the ending where Mario saves peach, completing the game under speedrunning rules. Doing this does mean you miss out on playingSuper Mario Brothers 3though, so is it worth it?

1Stop A Blue Shell - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The dreaded blue shell is probably one of the most hated and most loved things you could see, depending on who you are, in the entire Mario franchise. This shell has ended more friendships than any other item in video game history and was unstoppable until Mario Kart 8. There are three ways to stop this nuke, First is to use the super horn while the shell is over you to destroy it. Second, you’re able to do with a mushroom, wait until the Blue Shell tips upward and then use the mushroom before it crashes down. This way you’ll dash out of its way. The last way is to dive off the map if possible while the shell is over you, causing its negation and you will not suffer as bad of a penalty.
